Hand crafted instruments by luthier Ramón Iglesias
 

Ramòn Iglesias Vargas, has traveled around the continent in a constant journey of discovery throughout his life, and after many different professions, discovered his true passion, building stringed instruments. Be it an electric, or a classical guitar, a violin or a Stand up Bass,  All of them are unique , beautiful, and built to last a lifetime.

Mr. Iglesias started learning the building of instruments in the Martin instrument factory in the United States, on or around 1977,  since then has worked and consulted with other instrument manufacturers, and has established himself in Guatemala City building custom made instruments for professional Musicians, not only locally, but around the world. 

He has amounted to more then 30 years of experience building stringed instruments of any kind, and it has been a career of discovery and perfecting his trade. For years now, Mr. Iglesias  has only done one piece guitars, avoiding screw-on necks, basically because the timbre and sustain is superior,  and avoids the use of synthetic materials, as the sound of natural wood is closer to a “classical” sound.

Mr. Iglesias moved here to Guatemala in 1990 in search of exotic woods from the rich forests of the tropics, which possessed enough strength and longevity to replace the traditional truss rod used to straighten the necks of modern instruments. The only metal pieces in Mr. Iglesias instruments are the tuners, because of the precision they require.  Mr. Iglesias likes doing exclusive pieces, contrary to instruments “mass” produced by other luthiers from a single design.  

Musicians today seek “custom made” instruments, more personalized and exclusive then others, in a world where there are innumerable amounts of builders and traders of musical instruments.
